David Davidar .... the blue eyed boy of Penguin Publications, ousted on account of sexual harassment meted to a female co-worker.

While the whole episode does reek of reckless obsessions of a superior male ego, it also brings out the other side of the same coin ...., a true but visible fact
"that the Indian Male has truly arrived !!! "

Typically the Indian always bowed down to the "white-skin obsession", enslavened by the residue of the "Raj" !

Time and again we have been bombarded with stories of the white man harassing an Indian woman. A white woman harassing an Indian male.So many stereotypes !! So many tales heard so often, so many tales unheard and buried under the soil beautifully !!

However today we do see role reversals, thanks to a different impact of the "so called globalisation factor" and the "social permissiveness" that gets associated with anything and everything modern.

The birth, the new avatar of an all new Indian !!

Here is a case of a brown skin, making advances towards a white skin, taking it to intolerable lengths, then using his power to sack the white skin and then smartly announcing that he is stepping down to pursue more creative options !!!(when he is actually sacked, fired)!!!

We always heard similar tales, but now with a twist in characters !!!

Shobha De I am sure is listening and maybe ready for "Sweet Obsessions : Part 2" !!!, where David became Goliath !!

தருணம் என்கிற பெயரில் ஒரு குறுந்தகடு ஜுன் 8ஆம் தேதி அன்று சிவகாமி பெத்தாச்சி அரங்கில் வெளியிடப்பட்டது. வழக்கமான குறுந்தகடு வெளியீட்டு விழா போல இதை சாதாரணமாக எடுத்துக் கொள்ள முடியாது.

தருணம் என்கிற இந்த குறுந்தகடில் அப்படி என்னதான் இருக்கிறது?

ஒரு சோற்றுப்பதம் போல தமிழின் ஆகச் சிறந்த சங்க கால, இடைக்கால தமிழ் இலக்கியச் செய்யுள்களுக்கு இதில் இசை வடிவம் கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. தவிர பாசுரங்கள், பதிகங்கள், தமிழ்க் கீர்த்தனைகள் போன்றவற்றைப் பாடல் வடிவத்தில் அமைத்து, பியானோ உடன் கூடிய வாய்ப்பட்டாகத் தொகுத்து வழங்கி இருக்கிறார்கள் பாடகர் சிக்கில் குருசரணும், பியானிஸ்ட் அனில் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனும்.

இதன் முதல் குறுந்தகடை மாநிலங்கவை உறுப்பினர் கனிமொழி வெளியிட, இந்து நாளிதழ் இணை ஆசிரியர் நிர்மலா லக்ஷ்மன் பெற்றுக் கொண்டார். உலக செந்தமிழ் மாநாட்டிற்கு இது ஒரு அழகான முன்னறிவிப்பு என்று சுவையாகவும் சுருக்கமாகவும் புகழ்ந்து பேசினார் கனிமொழி. தமிழ் மொழியை இசையால் அலங்கரிக்கும் இனிய வாய்ப்பைத் தவறவிடவில்லை குருசரணும் அனில் ஸ்ரீனிவாசனும்.

"இந் தக் கச்சேரியை கிராமி விருது பெற்ற மறைந்த சவுண்ட் என்ஜினீயர் ஸ்ரீதர் மற்றும் இசையமைப்பாளர் மகேஷ் அவர்களுக்கு அர்பணிக்கிறோம்' என்று அறிவித்தார்கள். சிடி விற்பனையில் ஒரு பங்கு மகேஷ் நினைவு அறக்கட்டளைக்கு வழங்கப்படும் என்றும் கூறினார்.

இந்நிகழ்ச்சியில் அகநானூறு, திருப்புகழ், திவ்ய பிரபந்தம் உள்ளிட்ட பாடல்களுக்கு இசையமைத்து, மேடையில் பாடினார்கள். இத்துடன், பாபநாசம் சிவன், உளுந்தூர்பேட்டை ஷண்முகசுந்தரம், ஊத்துக்காடு வேங்கடகவி போன்றோர் இயற்றிய பாடல்களையும் குரலாலும் பியானோவாலும் சிறப்பித்தார்கள்.

ஸ்ரீனி வாசனுக்கும், குருசரணுக்கும் பரஸ்பரம் ஒரு நல்ல இணைப்பு தெரிகிறது. வெகு நாட்கள் கூடவே பாடி, வாசித்துப் பழகிவிட்டதால், அதனால் வரும் இயல்பும், நட்பும், அவர்கள் மத்தியில் தெரிந்தது.

எல்லாமே நன்றாக இருந்தாலும் ஒரு சில விஷயங்கள் மனதை நெருடின.
அரங்கத்தை இருட்டாக்கி, சினிமா தியேட்டர் போல் அமைத்தால்தான், புது இசை முயற்சிகளை ரசிக்க முடியுமா?
மென்மையான, சங்கீதத்திற்கு மென்மையான ஒளி எவ்வளவோ பொருத்தமாக இருந்திருக்கும்? திரையில் காணும் படம் போல் எங்கோ கலைஞர்கள், எங்கோ ரசிகர்கள் என்று ஒரு பிளவை ஏற்படுத்தும் வகையில் இருட்டு ஒரு தடையாகவே அமைந்துவிட்டது.

பாட்டை அறிமுகப்படுத்துகிறேன் என்கிற பெயரில் அகநானூறையும், பாசுரங்களையும், ஆங்கிலத்தில், அதுவும் புரியாத ஒரு நுனி நாக்கு ஆங்கிலத்தில் விளக்கினால் தகுமா? ஒரு முறை தமிழில் எடுத்துரைத்து, பிறகு ஆங்கிலத்தில் விளக்கம் கூறியிருக்கலாமே? முடியாதது ஒன்றும் இல்லை. அனில் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனும்கூட ஆரம்பத்தில் "டாமில்' என்றுதான் சொன்னார். பிறகு திருத்திக் கொண்டார்.

செம்மொழியான தமிழ் மொழி வாழ்ந்து செழிப்பதற்கு அதைச் சிறப்பாக உச்சரிப்பதில் கவனம் செலுத்த வேண்டும். அதை ஒரு கொள்கையாக எடுத்துக் கொண்டு செயல்பட இச் செம்மொழி மாநாடுத் தருணத்தில் உறுதி எடுத்துக் கொள்ளலாமே!

"ஆல் இந்தியா ரேடியோ' - சென்னை வானொலி நிலையம் என்கிற இந்தக் காலை வணக்கம் இசைப் பிரியர்களுக்கு வரப்பிரசாதம்.

இம்மாதம் 24-ஆம் தேதி, திங்கள்கிழமை காலை வானொலியில் 8-45 மணிக்கு சென்னை "பி' ஸ்டேஷனில் ஒலிபரப்பான ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சி நம்மை ஆன்மிக உலகத்திற்கே எடுத்துச் சென்று ஆனந்த வெள்ளத்தில் ஆழ்த்தியது.

1968 - 69-ல் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்ட இந்நிகழ்ச்சி வானொலியின் தரத்திற்கே ஒரு எடுத்துக்காட்டாக இருந்தது. அன்றைக்கு ஒலிபரப்பானது ஒரு அருமையான இசைச் சித்திரம். அது மாபெரும் ஞானியாக விளங்கிய ஸதாசிவ ப்ரம்மேந்திரர் பற்றியும் அவர் இயற்றிய பாடல்களைப் பற்றியுமான இசைச் சித்திரம் அது.

இந்த இசைச் சித்திரம் மிகவும் நேர்த்தியாக அமைத்த ஒன்றாக இருந்தது. இரண்டு பேர் குரு - சிஷ்யன் என்கிற பாத்திரத்தில் கேள்வி - பதில் மூலம் பல ருசிகரமான சம்பவங்களையும், விஷயங்களையும் நமக்கு அளித்தார்கள். ஸதாசிவ ப்ரம்மேந்திரரின் வாழ்க்கை வரலாறு, அவர் சன்யாஸம் வாங்கிய சம்பவம், பரம மௌனி ஆன கட்டம் என்று பலவிதமான தகவல்கள் நமக்கு அளிக்கப்பட்டது.

ஸதாசிவர் பரம அத்வைதி. நிர்குணம், நிராகாரம், ஸ்ர்வம் ப்ரம மயம் என்று உச்சகட்ட அத்வைத விசாரங்கள் கொண்டவர். இருப்பினும் அந்த நிலையை அடைவதற்கு ஸகுண வடிவமே மார்க்கம் என்கிற வகையில் ராமர், கிருஷ்ணர் லீலைகளைப் பற்றி பலவித பாடல்கள் அமைத்துள்ளார் என்று தெரியவந்தது.

அவர் இயற்றிய பாடல்களுக்கு இசை வடிவம் கொடுத்து மெட்டு அமைத்துள்ளார் மறைந்த மூத்த கலைஞர் செம்மங்குடி ஸ்ரீனிவாச அய்யர். அவ்வண்ணமே அப்பாடல்களைப் பாடி நடுவில் ஸ்லோகங்களை விருத்தமாகப் பாடி, நடுநடுவே கேள்வி பதில் மூலம் விஷயங்களைத் தெளிவுபடுத்தி, நேயர்களுக்கு ஒரு நல்ல விஷய விருந்தைச் சமைத்திருந்தார்கள். குகன் என்பவரால் இந்நிகழ்ச்சி வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டு எஸ்.ராஜம் தலைமையில் ஆர். வேதவல்லி, எஸ்.பிரேமா, எஸ்.ஐயர் ஆகியோர் உடன் பாடின இந்நிகழ்ச்சி ஓர் அற்புதமான பொக்கிஷம்.

துல்லியமான ரிக்கார்டிங், அருமையான பாட்டு, தெளிவான கேள்வி பதில்கள் என்று ஒவ்வொரு அம்சமும் மிகவும் கோர்வையாகச் சித்தரித்து அமைத்திருந்தார்கள். வானொலியின் இசை சேவையை நினைக்கப் பெருமையாக இருந்தது.

ஆல் இந்தியா ரேடியோவின் உதவியால் எத்துணை வித்வான்களின் கச்சேரிகள், இசை உரைகள், இசை சொற்பொழிவு, ஹரிகதா காலúக்ஷபம், வாத்திய விருந்தா என்று பலவகையான நிகழ்ச்சிகள் நம் செவிக்கு உணவாகக் கிட்டியிருக்கிறது? வாத்திய விருந்தா போன்ற ஸங்கீத அமைப்பில், பலவிதமான இசை கருவிகள், கலைஞர்கள் ஒன்று சேர்ந்து, ஒரே ஸ்ருதியில் பாட்டுகளை வாசித்து, வண்ணமயமான இசைக்கோலம் தீட்டி "வாத்திய விருந்தோ' என்று வியக்கும்படி அவரவர்கள் தங்கள் வித்வத்தைக் கூட்டிப் பங்கிட்டு கொண்டு நேயர்களை மகிழ்விக்கிறார்கள்.

ஆல் இந்தியா ரேடியோவில் நிறைய பெரிய வித்வான்கள் பணியாற்றியிருக்கிறார்கள், பணியாற்றி வருகிறார்கள். ரேடியோவில் பாடி பல பேர் பிரபலமாகி இருக்கிறார்கள்.

அதேபோல தூர்தர்ஷனிலும் பலதரப்பட்ட சாஸ்த்ரிய சம்பிரதாயமான நிகழ்ச்சிகள் பதிவு செய்து ஒளிபரப்புகிறார்கள். தூர்தர்ஷனில் பல நாள்களுக்கு முன்னால் "ஸ்வர ராக ஸீதா' என்று ஒரு தொடர் நிகழ்ச்சி மூலம் வெவ்வேறு ராகங்களின், பாட்டின் பரிணாமங்களை விளக்கினர். சினிமா - கர்நாடக இசை இதன் ஒற்றுமை - வேற்றுமைகளைக் காண்பிக்கும் வகையில் அமைந்த இந்த நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு நேயர்கள் மத்தியில் பெரும் வரவேற்பு கிட்டியது. கர்நாடக ஸங்கீத மகான்களின் வாழ்க்கை வரலாறு, ரஸிகப்பிரியா என்று ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சி பலவகை கச்சேரிகள், திருவையாறு தியாகராஜ ஆராதனை நேரடி ஒளிபரப்பு என்று ஏராளமான நிகழ்ச்சிகளைத் தூர்தர்ஷன் பதிவு செய்து காண்பித்து இருக்கிறது.

தூர்தர்ஷன் பொதிகையில் சமீபத்தில் ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சி. இதில் நமது கர்நாடக சங்கீதத்தில் இருக்கும் 72 மேள கர்த்தா ராகங்களைப் பற்றின சுவையான நுணுக்கங்களை, அந்த ராகங்களில் உள்ள கிருதிகளை பாடிக் காண்பித்து, ஆறு முன்னணி, மூத்த கலைஞர்கள் ஆளுக்குப் பன்னிரண்டு ராகம் என்ற முறையில் வகுத்துக் கொண்டு ஒரு மாபெரும் இசை உரை நிகழ்த்தினர்.

வாராவாரம் வெள்ளிக்கிழமை அன்று இந்நிகழ்ச்சியைக் காண்பித்து இதனின் மறு ஒலிபரப்பை திங்களன்று காண்பித்து, எல்லோரும் கேட்டு, பார்த்து, தெரிந்து கொள்ளும் அளவிற்கு நமது வீட்டிற்கே கொண்டு வந்து சேர்த்தார்கள்.

வானொலி நிலையத்தில் ஒரு பிரம்மாண்டமான அரங்கம் இருக்கிறது. விஸ்தாரமான மேடை, நல்ல மைக் என்று அமைத்து கச்சேரிகளும் ரிக்கார்டிங்களும் செய்கிறார்கள். இது போன்ற நிகழ்ச்சிகளை நேயர்கள் நேரிலும் கண்டு களிக்கலாம்.

இவ்வளவு பொக்கிஷங்களை நிறைத்து வைத்து இருக்கும் இந்த இரண்டு நிறுவனங்களுமே நமது நாட்டின் கலா சிகரங்கள். நமது கலாசாரத்திற்குப் பெருமை, ஏற்றம் சேர்க்கக்கூடிய நிறுவனங்கள்.

விளம்பரங்களையே நிகழ்ச்சியாக்கும் தனியார் சேனலைப்போல இல்லாமல், நிகழ்ச்சிகளை சீர் கெடாமல் தொடர்ந்து ஒலிபரப்பும் விதம் மிகச் சிறந்தது.

இருப்பினும், ஒரு உத்வேகத்துடன் செயல்பட்டு நிர்வாக மாற்றங்கள் செய்து தொழிலாளர்களுக்கு பயிற்சி அளித்து, நிர்வாகத்தை செம்மைப்படுத்தினால் நன்றாக இருக்கும்.

பழைய ரிகார்டிங் எல்லாவற்றையும் "டிஜிடல்' செய்து மறு ஒலிபரப்பு செய்து, குறுந்தகடு வடிவத்தில் விற்பனையும் செய்ய முயற்சித்தால் நல்ல விஷயங்கள் ரசிகர்களுக்குக் கூடுதலாகப் போய் சேரும்.

The ZOOZOO Effect !!

After the Walt Disney characters like Mickey, Donald, Pluto and the likes of it, Zoozoo has been the most successful and best brand mascot Indian Marketing and Advertising has ever created. Probably the "Onida Devil" or the "Asian Paints Nattu" were the better ones that carved a niche for themselves in the past on the map of the Indian brand world.

The Zoozoo concept was created by the team at Ogilvy & Mather (India), an agency known and reputed for their wonderful creative approach that merges brand strategy with advertising objectives and consumer liking.

The Zoozoo ads started airing during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2009, a cricket tournament which was started only in the year 2008. The IPL is already such a rage that Vodafone decided to start airing these Zoozoo ads in between match breaks to maximize its impact.

Keeping in tune, with todays age of early adoption of cellphones, "Catch them young" seems to be the motto of Vodafone with these Zoozoos. Multi branding, co-branding, tie-ups,merchandise all these add up to the visual imagery and firm brand recall. Portraying these zoozoos through depictions of everyday life issues and human behavioural approach, seem to have put these cuties in a strong firmament.

Animation concepts, aliens and robots coming alive, have caught on like wildfire across all age groups. Thanks to technology and telecommunications explosion, just like the Mickeys and Donalds of the world, the Zoozoos are here to stay as our eternal friends !!

Everyday I go past Vivekananda College in Mylapore, Chennai, i get to see two little "creatures of burden" standing either on the opposite side of the college building or on the same foothpath alongside the compund wall of the college building. What are these creatures of burden ?

Standing quietly, tied to a pole these creatures of burden, stand aloof from the din and clutter of the road by their side. I am at once reminded of the poem by W.H.Davies, " what is this life , we have no time to stand and stare !"

A strange sense of envy and compassion pervades my soul as I watch these two cuties.

Envy because, they can stand and stare all the time. No rush , no sms, no email no cooking, no deadlines to be met.

Compassion , because, who cares anyway about these little creatures? Who takes a second look at these tough shoulders which holds the yoke of burden so uncomplainingly?

We talk of "Save the Tigers", " Save the Lions" "Save the Elephants". Does anybody talk about "Save the Donkeys" ?

In this age of electronica,all our motor skills have been motorised by mechanical-electronic devices and the need for manual efforts have been thrown out. Where does this little donkey which once, had a place in our lives go now?

Donkey - a word used as a negative metaphor for any and everything ugly, slow and dumb,was of use to mankind once upon a time and it is at least nice to see that some dhobi in Mylapore , heartland Chennai city still thinks so.He has preserved two of them as some sort of antique relic - a la museum piece.

Does anybody have any statistics on these endangered species like their "feline counterparts" back in the Corbett or Sunderbans jungle? or does anyone even care to think for a moment about these quiet little harmless quadrupeds?

When they were of use , they got beaten up left right and centre. Now space age has made them redundant and almost extinct !! No time to stand and stare at them !!!

Take a close look at these soft little harmless creatures of burden and all of us humans in these days of intolerance and impatience, can definitely learn a few lessons from the Donkeys. I teach my daughter lessons of tolerance and patience, by using the positive metaphor of the Donkey. After all its a matter of perspective and perception !!
